Though an excellent conductor, copper oxidises very easily. This oxidised layer is in fact and excellent insulator! Because of this, bare copper wires should never be used for either amplifier or speaker connections. It is far better to terminate them with either 4mm plugs or spades. This will lead to a far more reliable connection long term especially in The Middle East's often humid environments.
